For its inaugural program on February 17, 2024, Esther Gabara, professor of Romance Studies and Art, Art History, and Visual Studies at Duke University, will deliver a keynote presentation followed by a reception for Latin American arts professionals attending CAA.

ISLAA-ALAA Encuentro for Latin American Art aims to increase the visibility of Latin American art studies and support emerging scholars in the field through a yearly gathering at CAA’s Annual Conference, the largest convening of art historians, artists, designers, curators, and visual arts professionals. The program invites an established scholar in Latin American or Latinx art to present a keynote address for all CAA attendees followed by a reception for members and scholars to engage in discussion, mentorship opportunities, and community.
